RESEARCHING REEFER

The Research is Right Here

Breaking the stigma of the last 80 years that have been filled full of Reefer Madness propaganda surrounding cannabis is much harder than one may think. Despite hundreds of different medical studies surrounding the benefits that cannabis could offer to treat many various ailments, there are politicians and health officials who are still screaming we need more research! This is one argument against the legalization of cannabis that I get sick and tired of hearing from anti-cannabis supporters.

The research is there.

Either these individuals haven’t read medical studies That published post-1950, they don’t know how to use Google, or they just don’t want to learn the truth. There is also the possibility that they are simply just too lazy to do the research on their own. In case this is the issue I thought that I would make it easy for us to help educate these individuals. Below you will find a compilation of summaries regarding a vast variety of different research studies that have been performed thus far that prove cannabis’ efficacy as a treatment for various diseases and conditions.

Epilepsy

In 2017 researchers from the University of Washington published a report that determined CBD was effective in treating autism as well as epilepsy in a mouse model study.

Speaking of CBD, the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis issued a report addressing the concern of a claim stating that CBD converts to THC in the stomach which raised many questions amongst the cannabis community as well as with medical cannabis patients. This study which involved dosing rats with high concentrations of cannabis oil and then testing their blood for traces of THC showed that CBD does in fact not convert to THC or any of its metabolites in the stomach once consumed.

Opioid Epidemic

The rising concern surrounding the devastating opioid epidemic in the United States has a lot of people asking whether or not cannabis could be an option and studies published in 2017 show that states that offer patient access to medical cannabis have in fact seen much fewer opioid-related overdoses since the implementation of a medical cannabis program.

Pharmaceutical Consumption

A study coming out of Canada also showed that the majority of those surveyed reported that cannabis has successfully allowed them to stop all pain, depression, and anxiety related pharmaceutical medications.

Healthy Brain Aging

Published by Nature medicine in June of 2017 showed that low daily doses of THC could help promote healthier brain aging based on studies performed on mice. This indicates strong hope for cannabis being efficient at treating things such as dementia.

Parkinson’s Disease

Clinical Neuropharmacology published a report in November of 2017 that showed cannabis was effective at improving the overall symptoms of those who have Parkinson’s disease including but not limited to providing pain relief, reducing the number of falls the suffered, reducing the severity of tremors, and improving sleep.

ALS

A study published in Neurology back in 2014 showed that ALS patients who utilize cannabis saw improved sleep, a reduction in depression, an increase in appetite as well as much more relaxed muscles.

Cancer and Pain

A 2009 article published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management showed that a THC and CBD combo extract was effective at providing relief from chronic pain in patients with advanced cancer that had not previously seen relief from opioids.

A study published in 2013 shows that cannabidiol or CBD is effective at relieving pain in cancer patients and may also have the ability to inhibit the growth of specific tumor cells.

Crohn’s

A study published in 2013 concluded that cannabis could offer Crohn’s patients significant clinical benefits. In fact, the results of their trials ended with 5 out of 11 subjects finding complete remission.

These are just a few of the research studies. Here is a link to hundreds more.

As you can see, the research is there. It is time that politicians recognize this and free the leaf like their constituents wish. It is time that this miraculous plant is able to shine and truly offer humanity all of the benefits that it possesses. It is time that people are able to choose a safer, natural option. It is time that people’s lives are no longer ruined over a plant. It is time that our brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers are released from the prison cells that hold them because they chose to consume a plant. It is time for cannabis to not just be legalized but to be freed.
