Some Cannabis Laws Are Re-LAX-ED, Others Aren’t
Most everyone has seen Harold and Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay. They end up there because Kumar brought weed on the plane and tried to fly high. Cannabis legalization has taken a major shift with more places adopting positive cannabis reform laws than ever before. The laws have led to a more re-LAX-ed treatment towards cannabis.
Unfortunately, more laws work against cannabis and cannabis consumers than for them. If you’re a safety-critical employee of Air Canada news just came in that you will be banned from Cannabis consumption whether you are working or not. What about passengers though?
Post security locations at airports are regulated by federal agencies. Since cannabis is still against the law on a federal level this means anyone in possession of cannabis in an airport is subject to Federal penalties. With that in mind not all airports are created equal.
Re-LAX-ed Cannabis Laws at LAX International Airport
LAX airport in Los Angeles California now allows travelers to possess cannabis while passing through Los Angeles International Airport. Passengers at LAX are allowed to have 28.5 grams of cannabis and 8 grams of concentrate on them. LAX encourages passengers to know the laws in States they are traveling to.
Even though this law says you can fly high, I’m not so sure that I would. Considering that it is against the law to transport cannabis out of the state it is sold in it just seems like a trap. But who knows I’m sure there’s braver Souls than I that will fly high and take their weed wherever they go. For now, I think I’ll just score some weed when I get where I’m going.
LAX Marijuana Policy
While federal law prohibits the possession of marijuana (inclusive of federal airspace,) California’s passage of proposition 64, effective January 1, 2018, allows for individuals 21 years of age or older to possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana for personal consumption. In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Department will allow passengers to travel through LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana. However, passengers should be aware that marijuana laws vary state by state and they are encouraged to check the laws of the states in which they plan to travel.-flylax.com
Just be sure that you’re not flying to Indiana with weed or have weed in Indiana at all and get caught. If you do get caught with any amount of weed there you’re looking at jail time and fines. The penalty for any amount of cannabis there is up to 180 days in jail and a $1000 fine. This really sucks if you get popped for a joint, not so much I guess if it’s a semi load full of weed. As cannabis laws change in support of this widely misunderstood plant, the demonizing of the plant and its consumers will fade.
It took over eight decades to get to where we are today. It’ll most likely take another eight to undo the negative stigma attached to this remarkable plant and the people who love it. Until then, help support positive cannabis reform laws. A single seed can tip the scales, you could be that seed.
