Cancer is No Match for Cannabis
When it comes to the medical applications of cannabis, it seems as though the benefits are nearly endless. Medical marijuana is being used to treat many different illnesses diseases and symptoms all around the world. Marijuana has shown to be beneficial in treating things ranging from anxiety and depression all the way to putting Crohn’s disease in remission.
Cannabis and Cancer
One of the most fascinating medical benefits though that baffle so many is how cannabis can help cancer patients. For many years in the state of California where medical marijuana was first pioneered since the prohibition took affected 1937, people have been consuming cannabis to help combat the horrible side effects of traditional cancer treatment such as chemotherapy.
Cannabis has proven to be successful at treating the nauseousness, and lack of appetite that comes with chemotherapy among many other things. What many people do not realize though is that cannabis and the cannabinoids within it has cancer killing properties. Cannabinoids such as THC or Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol and CBD also known as Cannabidiol have proven scientifically to kill cancer cells within the human body. The American Cancer Society has even admitted to research studies showing the successful termination of cancer cells thanks to cannabinoids.
They’re also dozens of personal stories where people have turned to cannabis when medical professionals have given them very grim life expectancies. The individuals have not only found hope in cannabis they have found a continued life. These testimonials cannot be denied and neither can the facts.
The Proof that Cannabis Can Cure Many Cancers Plaguing Lives Worldwide
Let’s take a look at a few of the studies that have proven cannabis can be beneficial for cancer patients and are solidifying what we have known for years.
- In 2009, a study at the Complutense University in Spain discovered that when THC is induced to brain cancer cells that they are terminated by the cannabinoid in a process which is known as “autophagy“. This particular study was performed using mice that had been implanted with human brain cancer The same results were seen in a study performed by the same group of researchers on 2 human patients with highly aggressive brain tumors.
- In another study by Complutense University that was co-led by the University of Anglia in the United Kingdom showed that THC was able to successfully shrink breast cancer cells in mice that were implanted with samples of human breast cancer. Their study concluded that there were two specific cell receptors that produced an antitumor response when saturated in THC. These receptors were both a part of the human endocannabinoid system.
- In studies performed by the St. George University of London marijuana was proven to be successful in killing cancer cells in patients with Leukemia. Leukemia is the cause of approximately 24,000 deaths every year in the United States alone. This study looked at six specific non-psychoactive cannabinoids including CBGV (Cannabigevarin), CBGVA (Cannabigevaric acid), CBD (Cannabidiol), CBDA (Cannabidiolic acid), CBG (Cannabigerol), and CBGA (Cannabigerolic acid). It was concluded that all 6 of these cannabinoids played a large role in “targeting and switching off pathways that allow cancers to grow” according to Dr. Wai Liu, an oncologist at St. George’s University of London who was the study’s author.
- The National Cancer Institute also reports on many lab based studies surrounding cannabinoids and cancer treatment applications. These studies have proven that cannabinoids are successful in reducing the risks of colon cancer, eliminating and terminating liver cancer cells, breast cancer cells, glioma cells and more. One study also concluded that the introduction of CBD and THC helped the success rate of chemotherapy.
Let’s not forget that the US government has also issued a patent that certifies cannabinoids can kill breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer cells. Just Google US Patent 20130059018 A1. The patent abstract reads as follows;
This invention relates to the use of Phytocannabinoids, either in an isolated form or in the form of a botanical drug substance (BDS) in the treatment of cancer. Preferably the cancer to be treated is cancer of the prostate, cancer of the breast or cancer of the colon.
More Research Equals More Lives Saved
These are just a few of the studies that have been conducted on cannabis and cancer. One thing that all of these studies have in common is that they show cannabis can kill cancer. It may not be able to kill or prevent every type of cancer but based solely on what we do know already there are millions of lives that could be saved from the hell of cancer and traditional treatments. As more states and countries legalize cannabis for medicinal and recreational consumption the research that we have surrounding the application of cannabis in treating cancer will only grow and in return more lives will be saved.
